At their first event for 2018, Apple has announced a new 9.7-inch iPad, which features support for Apple Pencil, and more. But best of all, at a starting price of just NZ$539.
The new 9.7-inch iPad, simply called iPad, joins the iPad range with new features and technologies. Some of which were previously introduced in iPad Pro models. These include support for the Apple Pencil, an Apple-designed A10 fusion chip, front and rear cameras, iOS 11, and more.
The A10-fusion chip gives the iPad 40% faster CPU performance and 50% faster graphics. Meaning the iPad can run now only one app at a time, but multiple, with iOS11’s multi-tasking features.
Perhaps the most significant new addition is support for the Apple Pencil. First introduced with the iPad Pro, Apple Pencil is designed to give you precision accuracy during key tasks. From drawing, sketching, annotating, and more on iPad.
Given the name, it has been designed to be used in a similar way to that of a pencil. Sensors inside can detect if you’re applying more or less pressure or even if you’re tilting it. This enables shading while drawing for example, or thin to thick lines while annotating or illustrating.
Many iPad Apps on the App Store offer support for Apple Pencil. From creative, sketching, medical, engineering, and educational apps. Some of the biggest, Microsoft Office, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, Adobe Illustrator, and more.
The new iPad is available for order in three colours and two storage sizes with either Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi + Cellular. Cellular enables you to put a SIM into the iPad and connecting to telcos such as Vodafone, 2degrees, Spark, and so on.
iPad pricing in New Zealand starts at NZ$539 including GST for 32GB of storage and Wi-Fi. This increases to NZ$699 for 128GB. If you want cellular connectivity the 32GB model will set you back NZ$759 and NZ$919 for 128GB.
Apple Pencil is available separately for NZ$159 and is compatible with the new iPad, plus current and previous generation iPad Pro models.
All iPad models can be ordered from Apple online New Zealand with free delivery and 14-day free returns. Apple is also offering University Students and Teachers NZ$30 off all models (and up to NZ$340 off a new Mac) with Apple’s Educational Pricing Offer.
